The 21-Day Reiki Cleanse

Integration and Self-Healing After Reiki Attunement

By Lynn Marie — Body, Mind & Soul Integrative Wellness Therapies

The 21-Day Reiki Cleanse is traditionally practiced after receiving a Reiki attunement. It is a period of self-healing and energetic integration that allows the body, mind, and spirit to adjust to the increased flow of Reiki energy.

This process is often described as a form of spiritual detoxification, supporting balance within the physical, emotional, mental, and spiritual energy bodies. The 21-day practice is symbolic of Mikao Usui’s 21-day meditation and fast on Mount Kurama, where he is said to have received the spiritual insights that led to the development of Reiki.

Following an attunement, Reiki practitioners are encouraged to spend twenty-one days practicing daily self-healing to deepen their connection with the energy and support their own healing journey.

Understanding the 21-Day Process

The cleanse begins on the same day the Reiki attunement is received and continues for three weeks. During this time, practitioners perform daily self-healing treatments while focusing on one chakra each day. Each of the seven primary chakras is addressed three times throughout the 21-day cycle, allowing Reiki energy to move through the entire energy system. As the process unfolds, individuals may become more aware of emotional patterns, thoughts, or experiences that surface for healing and reflection. This is a natural part of the integration process.

Possible Experiences During the Cleanse

Every person’s experience will be unique. Some individuals feel deeply peaceful, while others may notice shifts in their emotional or physical awareness. During this period, some people report experiences such as:

• emotional release (laughter, tears, anger, etc.)
• fatigue or the need for extra rest
• headaches
• heightened sensitivity or awareness
• mood fluctuations
• vivid dreams
• restless sleep
• temporary changes in libido

These experiences are often temporary and tend to settle as the energy system becomes balanced. Approaching the process with patience and self-compassion is important.

Preparing for the 21-Day Reiki Cleanse

Before beginning, take a moment to set a clear intention for the journey ahead. You may ask yourself:

• Am I seeking emotional healing?
• Do I want greater clarity and balance?
• Am I opening myself more fully to Reiki energy?

Creating a calm and sacred space for daily practice can also support the process. Choose a quiet place where you will not be disturbed and set aside a consistent time each day for your session. This transforms the cleanse into a meaningful daily ritual of self-care and spiritual connection.

Steps for the Daily Reiki Cleanse Practice

The following steps outline a simple structure for the daily self-healing process.

1. Acknowledge the Need for Healing

Begin by recognizing your intention to heal and grow.

2. Center Yourself

Use the Gassho position (hands together at the heart) to bring your attention inward.

3. Statement of Intention

Silently or aloud say:

"Reiki energy, please balance and cleanse my chakras for my highest good and purest intention."

4. Perform Self-Healing

Allow Reiki energy to flow through your hands as you begin your self-treatment.

5. Cleanse the Daily Chakra

Focus on the chakra assigned for that day while allowing Reiki to flow through your hands.

6. Balance the Energy Centers

Place your hands on the chakra locations and bring awareness to sensations such as warmth, tingling, or subtle movement of energy.

7. Heal the Heart Chakra

Bring awareness to the heart center, noticing how energy moves between the upper and lower chakras. Allow Reiki to restore balance.

8. Seal the Energy

Close the session with the intention:

"Reiki energy, please seal this healing energy for my highest good and purest intention."

9. Express Gratitude

Offer thanks to Reiki energy and to yourself for the time spent in healing.

10. Sweep the Aura

Gently move your hands through the aura to smooth and balance the energy field.

11. Ground Yourself

Reconnect with your body by breathing deeply or placing your hands on your legs or feet.

12. Journal Your Experience

Reflect on any sensations, insights, or emotions that arose during the session.

Supporting Yourself During the Cleanse

Self-care is an important part of this process.

Helpful practices include:

• drinking plenty of water
• spending time in nature
• journaling daily
• practicing meditation or quiet reflection
• taking relaxing baths
• engaging in gentle movement such as walking, yoga, or stretching
• listening to uplifting music
• spending time with supportive people

It is also recommended to limit substances that may disrupt energetic balance, such as alcohol, drugs, excessive caffeine, or heavily processed foods.

Gassho Meditation

The Gassho Meditation is a foundational practice in Reiki that helps center the mind and open the body to Reiki energy.

Sit comfortably with your spine upright. Place your hands together in prayer position at the heart center. Focus your attention on the point where your middle fingers meet. If thoughts arise, simply acknowledge them and gently return your focus to that point. Remain in this position for several minutes, allowing the mind to quiet and the body to relax. When complete, slowly lower your hands and take a few deep breaths before continuing your Reiki practice.

A Journey of Self-Awareness

The 21-Day Reiki Cleanse is not something to rush or force. Instead, it is an opportunity to slow down, listen to your inner experience, and allow Reiki energy to guide your healing process. Approach the practice with openness and kindness toward yourself. Each day of the cleanse invites deeper awareness, balance, and connection with the universal life-force energy that Reiki represents.
